INTRODUCTION The Choumei font is a non-serious Kanji font with nearly 7,700 glyphs that I created out of interest. I am releasing it into the wild in case anyone finds it useful. I dervied the kanji and some of the other characters from the Kanji Stroke Order font that I also maintain. I knocked together the remaining characters in Fontforge. The characters have unusually thin strokes. I am no longer maintaining this font, so if you find a problem with it then you will have to fix it yourself with a tool such as Fontforge. I named this font after Kamo no Choumei (1155-1216), the Japanese author who wrote "Life in a Ten-Foot-Square Hut". INSTALLATION AND USE Install and use this font as you would any other TrueType font. The other files in the archive are this readme and the BSD-style copyright notice. Choumei provides small capitals; access them using the smcp tag. For example, in XeTeX use \font\smallcaps="Choumei:+smcp" at 10pt LICENCE This font may be freely distributed under the terms of the BSD-style licence included with this archive in the file copyright.txt. The kanji strokes remain under the copyright of Ulrich Apel and the AAAA and Wadoku projects. If you find this font useful then please consider making a donation to the Wadoku project by pointing your Web browser at http://www.wadoku.de and clicking on "Spenden". I created the small number of characters in this font that were not dervied from the AAAA and Wadoku projects' Kanji Stroke Order data using Fontforge. CHANGELOG 2018/07/27: Updated the font to make it work with Microsoft Word on Macintosh. 2008/12/29: Updated readme to indicate that I am no longer maintaining this font. 2008/04/04: Added a few hundred glyphs so that Choumei now covers all of the JIS 0208 characters. I added quite a few others too, including small capitals. 2008/03/03: Reduced size of font file by 40% using Simplify function in FontForge. Cleaned up many glyphs. 2008/02/25: 1.00 Initial revision ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS Almost all the work for this font was done by the AAAA and Wadoku projects under the supervision of Ulrich Apel. I just had the idea of turning the SVG data into a font and did so. Tim Eyre mail |at| nihilist (dot) org (dot) uk
